THE MOST COMMON REQUEST WE HEAR:

By far it is that our customers do not want their property to go to the State of Texas. We assure them that the likelihood of that happening is very low. This article by Meghan Schiller for KDKA News in Pittsburgh gives a good example of how state law and the courts work very hard to see that the state does not take a deceased person’s property. Click HERE to read.

WHERE DOES THE FEAR COME FROM:

But we also understand where the fear comes from. The American legal system is based in large part on the English system. And the English legal system still has laws on the book going back to the Middle Ages that allow property to go to the King. But due to a recent scandal this law may be changing. This article by Maeve McClenaghan, Rob Evans, and Henry Dyer in The Guardian explains how the law from the really old days works and the modern complications it is causing. Click HERE to read.
